‘A Shout out for Carers' | Carers Week 2024
Caring for a loved one, whether young or old, can be incredibly challenging. This often leaves carers struggling to find time for their own needs. Many face daily hurdles that affect their finances, jobs, and, importantly, their health and wellbeing.
During Carers Week, support charities like Age UK, Carers UK, and the Carers Trust will highlight the vital role carers play in our society. With an election on the horizon, it’s crucial that carers are recognised both in our communities and by the national government.
Recently, the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) released a report urging the next government to prioritise a new and ambitious National Carers Strategy. In a survey, a significant 93% of carers cited their health and wellbeing as their top concern. This isn’t surprising! While it’s overdue to recognise the invaluable role of carers, we’ll have to see if the next government will truly listen and make this a priority.
